Picture Perfect

This outstanding moment captured so beautifully is Leticia Croft-Holguin and her son Sam.  A mother of two boys, ages 9 and 2, Leticia’s entry was the People’s Pick winner in our Mother’s Day- Mom’s Got Glam Contest.   Here’s a little bit about her…

sam and me 4At age 28, Leticia was diagnosed with Triple Negative/Invasive Ductal Breast Cancer during the ninth month of her pregnancy.  An Accounting/HR/Payroll Clerk at a Mortgage Firm, Leticia told us that she devotes her free time to her children and to her fight against cancer.  To fight the fight, Leticia weapons of choice have been education and fundraising.

Leticia created an educational program through the non-profit Latinas Contra Cancer (Bay Area) called, Young Women & Breast Cancer.  The program is designed to raise awareness and alleviate factors that increase the mortality rate in young women diagnosed with breast cancer.

She has presented her program at Santa Clara and Stanford University and plans to roll it out to local high schools.  In addition, the mortgage company she works for has teamed up with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and created Partners For A Cure.  Last year they raised over $100,000 to fight cancer and Leticia reports that they are on track towards their goal of raising $250,000 this year.

So how did this busy mother spend Mother’s Day?

“ I started it off with Latinas Contra Cancer, 9th Annual Mother’s Day Walk against all Cancer.  Then I took my Mom to the movies, and came home to a beautifully clean house and dinner being prepared by my wonderful husband!"

What an inspiration this young woman is. I am a healthy 50 year old woman I go work 5days a week come home make dinner sometimes I eat out and watch T.V WOW I will think twice about sitting around doing nothing. This is a wakeup call for me. If Leticia can get out there and help others so can I. Thank you for opening my eyes. I should know better I lost my mother 6 years ago to cancer.

What an inspiration. Going from giving birth to a beautiful son to immediately face such turmoil. Leticia took this on and faced this with Faith and pride in who she is. Not only did she get through the treatment she immediately stood on her feet and went into action! Giving back and then some. Who does this? Leticia Holguin does! I have read articles and have read comments about this young woman from afar, I live in Sacramento, although distant I feel close. Thank You for this article, yet another testimant!!!
